Two bridges in Bălți at risk of collapse
Two bridges in the city of Bălți, Moldova, are in such a state of disrepair that they risk collapsing at any moment. The bridges, which are over 50 years old, are located over the Răut River and pose a serious danger to motorists and pedestrians.
According to experts, the bridges have been damaged by natural disasters and heavy traffic. The Moldovan Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development plans to demolish the bridges and rebuild them from scratch. The project is expected to cost 60 million lei (about $3 million) and will be completed within a year.
Local residents are concerned about the impact that the demolition of the bridges will have on traffic in the city. The bridges are a major thoroughfare for vehicles travelling between Bălți and other parts of the country.
The city of Bălți is working with the government to identify a detour for traffic during the construction period.
