Moldova EU bid: Hungary's 'unconditional' support paves way

Hungary threw its full weight behind Moldova's European Union aspirations on Thursday, with Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto pledging "firm" and "unconditional" support, Agerpres has reported.

During a meeting with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea in Budapest, Szijjarto emphasised the mutual benefits of Moldovan accession, stressing its potential to enhance EU competitiveness.

Hungary's stance underscores its unwavering commitment to Southeast EU expansion, Szijjarto affirmed. "We advocate for individual assessments of each candidate," he said, rejecting attempts to link or hinder integration based on national performance discrepancies. Accelerating Moldova's EU journey, Szijjarto argued, would revitalise the bloc's economic dynamism.

This strong affirmation arrives amidst Prime Minister Dorin Recean's ongoing working visit to Hungary, initiated at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orbán. Recean's packed schedule today includes meetings with Hungary's Prime Minister, business leaders, and the Moldovan diaspora residing in Hungary.
