The ceremony will take place in the presence of Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Popșoi was appointed Foreign Minister on Wednesday, January 24, after Vice Prime Minister Nicu Popescu resigned. In the same meeting, Prime Minister Recean announced that Cristina Gherasimov had been appointed Minister of European Affairs without portfolio. Recean later announced that Gherasimov would be the chief negotiator for Moldova's accession to the European Union.

Popșoi is set to take office on February 1.

Popșoi is a member of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), the ruling party in Moldova. He is a lawyer and diplomat with a long career in international relations. He has served as Moldova's Ambassador to the United States and Canada, and as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Popșoi's appointment is seen as a sign of the PAS's commitment to strengthening Moldova's ties with the West. He is expected to play a key role in Moldova's efforts to join the European Union.
