Farmers in Moldova threaten protests over drought
Over 30 farmers in Cahul district, Moldova, are threatening to protest if the government does not take action within the next five days.
The farmers have signed a memorandum that they have sent to the authorities in Chisinau.
They are demanding the introduction of a moratorium on the calculation of penalties for loans taken, the enforcement of obligations, and the initiation of insolvency procedures for micro, small, and medium-sized farmers, until December 31, 2024, following the Romanian model. They are also demanding a solution to the problem of lending to farmers, as well as compensation for the drought.
When contacted by Moldova 1, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture said they would provide a response later.
