Protest with altercations in the centre of the capital. The headquarters of the General Prosecutor's Office, picketed by Șor's sympathisers
A new anti-government protest is currently taking place in the centre of the capital. "Down with the dictatorship", "Anticipated", "Down with Maia Sandu", "Resignation" or "We are the people!" - chanted the crowd, which picketed the headquarters of the General Prosecutor's Office.
During the meeting, members and sympathisers of the "Sor" Party got into altercations with several supporters of President Maia Sandu, who organised a parallel anti-protest in the centre of the capital. They asked the demonstrators of Şor to go home. As a result of the altercations, an old woman was knocked down by a man. The protesters also forced the Police cordon, which is in front of the General Prosecutor's Office, applying physical force on the lawmen. Following the incidents, two people were detained by the law enforcement officers.
According to the Police, in the context of the meeting, bld. Ștefan cel Mare and Sfânt, the perimeter of Vasile Alecsandri str. and Ismail str. is blocked, public transport being redirected.
The law enforcement officers remind, in the context, that according to the Provision of the Commission for Exceptional Situations, the holding of meetings with the blocking of traffic lanes, transport arteries or access and evacuation routes to public institutions on working days is prohibited.
TRM.MD recalls that the "ȘOR" Party protested every Sunday, starting from September 18, in front of the Parliament and the Presidency, demanding the resignation of the current government, the reduction of prices and tariffs, as well as the increase of salaries. Previously, the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, declared that her resignation was being demanded by "thieves" and "big corruption", who do not want to answer for the crimes committed. The head of state also stated that the demonstrations would be organised with "stolen money" and appealed to citizens not to judge the people protesting in the centre of the capital, being paid.
In the meantime, the law enforcement officers initiated a series of criminal cases and raided the headquarters of the "ȘOR" Party. As a result of the action, black bags with over four million lei were lifted - money intended for the organisation of anti-government protests. A criminal case was opened on the fact of illegal financing of the political formation, and another aimed at the preparation of mass disturbances during the demonstrations. The political formation has repeatedly rejected the accusations of the law enforcement officers.
At the beginning of November, the Government sent to the Constitutional Court the notification regarding the control of the constitutionality of the "ȘOR" Party. According to the Minister of Justice, Sergiu Litvinenco, in the submitted notification, sufficient arguments are presented that show that, through all the activities so far, the "ȘOR" Party has acted in contradiction to the principles of the rule of law and endangers the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
