Anti-Putin Protest Turns Violent in Moldova

A man was arrested by police after he allegedly threw two containers of flammable substances over the fence of the Russian Embassy in Chișinău.

A polling station for the Russian presidential election was open at the embassy at the time of the incident. According to the police, the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m., while several citizens were waiting in line to cast their ballots.

He was immediately detained and identified. He is currently at the police inspectorate for questioning and documentation. The 54-year-old man is a citizen of the Republic of Moldova but claims that he also holds citizenship of the Russian Federation. Law enforcement will determine the accuracy of this claim.

During the questioning, he explained that his actions were motivated by dissatisfaction with the actions of the Russian authorities. All circumstances will be established in the course of the documentation process, the police also mentioned.

This incident was also reported by the Russian state-owned news agency TASS, which is affiliated with the Kremlin. "A provocateur threw a burning object into the courtyard of the Russian embassy in Chișinău."

At the same time, two people near the Russian embassy expressed their dissatisfaction with the current leader of Moscow.

Sunday marks the third and final day of the presidential election in Russia. Over 60% of the 112 million Russians eligible to vote have already participated. In the absence of any strong challengers, Vladimir Putin could win a new term.
