Deadly Windstorm Strikes Poland: Five Lives Lost
A powerful windstorm with gusts reaching speeds of 155 kilometres per hour has wreaked havoc in Poland's Tatra region, claiming the lives of at least five people and causing widespread destruction as trees toppled and roads became impassable.
According to reports from local authorities, the ferocious winds led to multiple fatalities and injuries as trees were uprooted and branches came crashing down. Firefighters were deployed to over 140 incidents to clear fallen debris and assist in emergency situations.
In the town of Rabka-Zdroj, two adults and a child tragically lost their lives when a tree collapsed onto them, confirmed firefighters. Similarly, in Zakopane, a popular resort town nestled in the Tatra Mountains, a 23-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy succumbed to injuries sustained under similar circumstances, as reported by news.ro.
The deadly windstorm followed three days of unseasonably warm weather. On March 30th, temperatures soared to a historic high for the month, reaching 26.4 degrees Celsius in the southern city of Tarnow.
