Moldovan Orthodox Church Leaders Urge Participation in National Census

Leaders of the two Moldovan Orthodox Churches have called on their parishioners to actively participate in the ongoing national population and housing census, which began on April 8.

The metropolitans issued separate messages to the faithful.

Petru, Metropolitan of Bessarabia (Moldova), encouraged residents to declare their ethnicity as Romanian nationality, Romanian language, and Orthodox faith.

Metropolitan Vladimir of Moldova, who leads the church affiliated with the Russian Patriarchate, emphasised in his message the vital importance of the national census for social planning and development. He urged both clergy and believers to cooperate fully with the census workers.

The national census will conclude on July 7.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, over 400,000 people have completed the census forms in the eight days since the initiative began.
