The former mayor of Balti, Renato Usatîi, announced his return to politics
Renato Usatîi returns to politics. The former mayor of Balti told a press conference at the headquarters of his party that he will participate in the local elections. Usatii was absent from public life for almost a year and a half, and the decision to return to politics, according to him, is due to popular demand.
Renato Usatîi announced a restructuring of his party, however, he did not specify whether he would run it personally.
"We have many city mayors, we have hundreds of first-level, second-level councillors. Today, I couldn't and I can't leave orphans those who went with me since 2014, and to those who supported us", declared Renato Ursatîi.
In 2015, the politician took over the former Republican People's Party, which he reformed into "Our Party". In the same year, Renato Usatîi was elected mayor of Balti municipality. However, in a year he would go to Moscow because of a criminal case. He returned to the Republic of Moldova in 2019, after Vlad Plahotniuc lost power and was to be re-elected as mayor. In the 2020 presidential elections, Usatîi obtained over 16 percent of the votes. And after the parliamentary elections in the summer of 2021, when his formation obtained just over four percent and did not pass the electoral threshold, he withdrew from politics and gave up the mayor's office. Renato Usatîi made his fortune in Russia, where he provided maintenance services for Russian railways. Moscow authorities are investigating him criminally. Usatii claims that the file is fabricated.
