Moldova Sets Fees for After-School Programs

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has issued a new regulation for the organisation and operation of extended-schedule classes or groups, which has been published in the Official Monitor.

This regulation sets the minimum fee for extended-schedule groups in schools at 560 lei per child for six hours in a group of 25 students. The cost may vary depending on the teacher's experience, but it should not exceed 634 lei for six hours in a group of 25 students.

The Ministry developed this regulation after the municipal authorities suspended the extended-schedule program. As Education Minister Dan Perciun announced, the suspension stemmed from a lack of funding.

Earlier this year, municipal authorities suspended extended-schedule groups for elementary school students due to budgetary constraints. The Mayor of Chișinău, Ion Ceban, accused the national government of allocating insufficient funds to the municipality, hindering the program's operation.
