German Foreign Minister requests the urgent transfer of air defense systems to Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made a surprise visit to Kiev for the seventh time since the start of the war. In connection with the current offensive of Russian troops, the head of diplomacy in Berlin called for the urgent transfer of additional air defense systems to Ukraine to protect against Russian missiles and drones.

Annalena Baerbock noted that, thanks to the global initiative she launched together with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, almost one billion euros have already been raised to support the Ukrainian air defense forces, writes DW. The German minister also strongly supported Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

Ukraine has been on the defensive for months due to a lack of weapons, ammunition and soldiers.

Shortly before the current visit to Kiev, Baerbock again called for the urgent supply of additional air defense systems and Western fighter jets to Ukraine.

For security reasons, Annalena Baerbock could not visit Kharkiv. She was there in January 2023 and now intended to re-examine the situation of the civilian population in the region.
