Stable Condition: Prime Minister Fico's Rehabilitation Journey
Prime Minister Robert Fico has been relocated from the hospital in Banská Bystrica to his residence in Bratislava.
This information was confirmed to ta3 by Miriam Lapuníková, the director of Roosevelt Hospital. The prime minister's condition is stable, and he has commenced rehabilitation.
The Prime Minister was shot on May 15 by Juraj Cintula, aged 71, following a government session in Handlová. Subsequently, he was transported to a hospital in Banská Bystrica.
On Thursday morning, the director of the hospital in Banská Bystrica announced that a medical consortium will determine the timing of the prime minister's discharge. If this occurs, he will receive direct care at home.
On Friday, the hospital where he received treatment announced on its Facebook page that the prime minister is already under home care.
Robert Fico, aged 59, leads the left-wing populist party he founded, SMER - Social Democracy. Last autumn marked his fourth term as Prime Minister of Slovakia.
He first assumed office in 2006, and in March 2018, he stepped down from the post for the final time. This resignation followed mass protests triggered by the assassination of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak, who had been probing ties between the Mafia and Fico's associates.
During his current ascent to power, Robert Fico has garnered attention beyond Slovakia primarily by vowing to cease all patronage to Ukraine.
Since assuming power, Fico has honoured his promise, resulting in Slovakia no longer providing military aid to Ukraine free of charge.
