Russia: ISIS Prison Uprising Ends in Deadly Raid
Several inmates affiliated with the Islamic State group staged a violent uprising at a pre-trial detention facility in Russia's Rostov region.
The inmates, some with prior terrorism convictions, overpowered guards and seized hostages. Negotiations between the attackers and authorities broke down, prompting a raid by special forces. All six attackers involved in the hostage-taking were killed during the operation. One hostage sustained injuries and required medical attention.
Surveillance footage captured by the attackers allegedly shows the interior courtyard of the facility, with one of the hostages handcuffed. The footage also includes a statement from the attackers, claiming divine intervention and demanding a vehicle for escape in exchange for releasing the hostages.
According to authorities, the attackers communicated despite being held in separate cells, suggesting pre-planning. Officials are investigating the possibility of external assistance in coordinating the attack. The claim that the attackers received outside help is currently under investigation.
