MD-Alert: Public Warnings for Moldova's Safety

The Republic of Moldova is planning to implement an early warning system for extreme weather events and emergencies by 2025 at the earliest.

Liliana Pușcașu, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Emergency Situations Inspectorate, informed reporters that her department is currently contracting companies to identify the most efficient technologies for the project.

The envisioned system is similar to those already operational in Romania and other European Union countries. The project is currently undergoing a feasibility study to assess its viability.

Estimated to cost over 440,000 euros, the MD-Alert project will be funded by European partners to the tune of 92%. Upon completion, the MD-Alert system will broadcast public warnings and alarms in case of extreme weather events, floods, or other situations posing a serious threat to public safety and health. These warnings will be disseminated through the mobile phone networks of communication operators.
