The projects made at the FabLab in Soroca, winners in a national competition
Young engineering enthusiasts from Soroca meet at the FabLab center where they have the opportunity to put all their ideas into practice. The workshop is attended by 15 students, and their works become winners in various national competitions year after year. Here they can materialize their ideas into real prototypes, developing small businesses at home.
A team of six young people participated in the second edition of the "Solidarity FabLab - Knowledge for the Future" project. They were trained in digital production for six months, and their projects impressed the judges this time as well. For the second consecutive year, young people from Soroca become the winners of the grand prize.
"We created an intelligent intersection that aims to ensure the safety of pedestrians by creating barriers that rise when the traffic light turns red and return to the original color when green, but at the same time we created intelligent lighting," says student Mihaela Botnaru .
"The purpose of this project was to solve a problem at the local level because the lack of parking spaces led to various social problems such as traffic jams. For me it is a new experience that gave me the opportunity to develop myself multilaterally", says Renata Costin, another participant in the competition.
The FabLab offers young people in the region new opportunities to explore their engineering and creative potential. Thanks to the modern technologies and tools it has been equipped with, this production workshop provides them with a unique platform for development and innovation.
"We, young people from Soroca, participated with six projects, all very good, and it was the greatest joy when our project was declared the winner and we got the 1st prize for the second year in a row. Many projects are at the level of ideas and models, obviously these ideas could be further patented, implemented at the industrial level, given that this is another stage. For this, all the conditions are not yet created in our country", mentions Professor Victor Ciuvaga.
Currently, on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, thanks to the Competitiveness Project funded by USAID, Sweden and Great Britain, seven FabLabs have been opened: one in Chisinau and six other regional ones were established in Ungheni, Drochia, Cahul, Orhei, Sîngerei and Soroca.
