LIVE TEXT // Finance Minister-designate Victoria Belous takes the oath of office

The appointed Minister of Finance, Victoria Belous, takes the oath of office starting at 17:00, in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean: "Madame Minister, you are going to take over this important portfolio. We have to increase the incomes of the citizens and thereby the tax revenues of the Government and we have to very judiciously finance the economic development programs, but also the social assistance programs, medical and so on. Beyond that, we have very good, friendly public services to offer, both at the State Fiscal Service and at the Customs Service. Likewise, the State Treasury is very important, how we manage the money."

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu: "I want to first thank Minister Petru Rotaru for his intense activity and for all the recent successes. The fact that we were able to finance important programs even when the economy could not generate all the resources we needed for development. Madam Minister, I congratulate and thank you for accepting this challenge. Be aware that it is a difficult portfolio. We also have high expectations on the part of maintaining the financing of important programs, of all expenses that are important for citizens, but also on the part of transformation, especially because the Ministry of Finance leads several working groups when we talk about the process of negotiations with the EU and we have to make significant changes to improve the quality of things."

Veronica Belous: "I swear to give all my strength and skill to the future of the Republic of Moldova, to respect the Constitution and laws of the country, to defend democracy, fundamental human rights and freedoms, sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Moldova."

We remind you that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean, submitted the candidacy of Victoria Belous for the position of Minister of Finance on Tuesday. Belous previously held the position of deputy head of the State Fiscal Service (SFS).

The former Minister of Finance, Petru Rotaru, resigned from his position last week.
