Ukraine's Zelensky says he wants Russia at the table for next peace summit
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the French media that Russia should participate in the second Peace Summit in Ukraine, because most of the countries of the world are in favor of it, the BBC writes. Russia was not invited to the first world Peace Summit, which was held in Switzerland. Kremlin officials said the event was not able to bring peace because its participants did not discuss Russia's demands.
Ukraine proposed its own peace plan at the summit, which includes, among other things, the withdrawal of Russian troops from all occupied territories, the punishment of war criminals and the payment of reparations. Russian leaders, for their part, have made it clear that the fighting will not stop until Ukraine withdraws troops from regions the Kremlin has claimed as its own.
"The majority of the world today says that Russia must be represented at the second summit, otherwise we will not achieve meaningful results," he said in western Ukraine on Tuesday.
"Since the whole world wants them to be at the table, we cannot be against it", said the leader from Kiev.
Zelensky gave this interview to French journalists during a recent visit to western Ukraine.
