Ministry of Energy asks the Commission for Emergency Situations to establish a state of early alert on the natural gas market in the Republic of Moldova
The Ministry of Energy initiates the procedure for establishing the state of early alert on the natural gas market in the Republic of Moldova. The decision was taken at the proposal of "Vestmoldtransgaz", after Kiev informed Chisinau that gas interruptions from Russia are possible, due to military operations in Kursk, Sudja, where there is a logistics hub for transporting gas from Russia, including in the transnistrian region and Europe, through Ukraine. The Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) has 12 hours to convene in order to examine the Ministry's proposal.
"At the moment there are no outages, there are no emergencies, there is no imminent risk to the system, but the transport operator in Ukraine notified the operator yesterday evening that there is a possible risk where, like any military action, certain restrictions. At the moment, the station in Sudja is operating normally, but considering the notification from the colleagues in Ukraine, this morning we convened a meeting where we discussed the scenarios, the situation and the possibilities of intervention", said Minister Victor Parlicov.
The official announced that the Ministry sent a request to the CSE asking it to establish the state of early alert on the energy market.
"The state of early alert implies that there is a risk that is monitored, followed, but not intervened. The CSE will decide if it is instituted and what is the need for intervention ".
The ministry stated that natural gas is delivered through Ukraine to the Transnistrian region as normal. At the same time, the official declared that for the needs of the right bank of the Nistru there are sufficient volumes of gas, including security stocks and volumes contracted commercially by market operators.
"At the moment, there is no imminent risk of stopping the supply of gas to the left bank, but we need reaction time to manage the situation if something happens. There are things that do not depend on us and that we cannot control, in localities where military operations are held, so we must be prepared for any scenario".
Russian authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Kursk region amid the continued cross-border attack by Ukrainian troops in the biggest incursion into Russian territory since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. According to Russian officials, at least 5 civilians have been killed and 31 injured. President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of launching a major provocation and indiscriminately bombing civilian targets.
