How to form an initiative group for Moldova's Presidency
All candidates designated for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova are required to form an initiative group and register it with the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
The necessary documentation must be submitted no later than 50 days before the election day.
According to the CEC, if the initiative originates from citizens, the initiative group must consist of at least 25 and no more than 100 eligible voters.
“The initiative group is formed during a citizens' assembly where support for the presidential candidate is determined, the leader of the group is elected, and the membership list is approved. The designated candidate is required to attend this formation assembly and may be elected as the leader of the group. Alternatively, another member of the group may be chosen as the leader,” specifies the CEC.
For political parties and electoral blocs, the meetings of central bodies where the presidential candidate is designated will also involve approving the list of members and forming the initiative group to collect signatures from the candidate's supporters.
To register the initiative group, the designated candidate must submit a set of documents to the Central Electoral Commission. Within three days of receiving these documents, the CEC will verify their accuracy and decide whether to approve or reject the registration of the initiative group.
