Last night’s Supermoon: A rare astronomical sight
Last night, the residents of the Republic of Moldova had a rare opportunity to witness a spectacular astronomical phenomenon: the Supermoon.
The event occurs when the full moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, known as perigee. As a result of this proximity, the moon appears approximately 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual.
Weather conditions were favourable for observing the Supermoon, and the clear skies allowed residents across the country to admire this natural spectacle.
Experts recommend observing the phenomenon from areas with minimal light pollution, away from city lights, to fully appreciate the moon’s brightness. Additionally, using binoculars or a simple telescope could enhance the visual experience, allowing us to observe details on the lunar surface.
