Chisinau City Council meeting: Which source will be used for the payment of "Apă-Canal Chisinau" arrears to Premier Energy
Chisinau Municipal Council emergency meeting. On the agenda there is only one issue - the exceptional situation at "Apă-Canal Chisinau" SA. Today, city councillors will decide from where they will get the money to pay off Apă-Canal's electricity debt.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ion Ceban, the mayor of the capital, warned that if Termoelectrica's water needs are not met, people risk being left without heat.
"Apă-Canal Chisinau” has a debt of more than 70 million lei to Premier Energy. If the arrears remain unpaid, on 1 February, the energy supplier may cut off the company from the electricity grid, i.e. the water supply in the capital will be shut off.
The debt would have accumulated over the past two months, according to Mayor Ion Ceban. He is asking the central authorities to intervene to pay the debt. Representatives of the government say the water tariff is approved by ANRE, an independent regulatory institution whose independence is protected by law.
