At the ceremony, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița stated that the Government's action programme includes the construction and upgrading of several national roads.

"I will only mention here some of these important projects - the Otaci-Soroca-Arionesti road, the bypass roads around Cimislia and Vulcanesti. We will also continue the construction of the Chisinau beltway, on the other segments of this project another 17 kilometres of road will be built", said Natalia Gavrilița.

Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu expressed his thanks to external partners with whose help roads are being built in Moldova.

"Chisinau must have a full beltway as soon as possible, as every European capital has. We will make all efforts to move forward quickly with the construction of the other sectors. The safety of citizens is our priority. People must enjoy safe and quality roads", added Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu.

"The first sector of the Chisinau ring road, which was launched today, will reduce noise and air pollution in the municipality of Chisinau, as well as make freight transport more efficient. Construction of this new road has been carried out with the financial support of the European Investment Bank, in the spirit of "Team Europe". The European Union and its partners have invested more than €1 billion in transport infrastructure for roads and railways. Strong transport connections are the foundation of a functioning economy and contribute to the prosperity of the country and to Moldova's rapprochement with the EU," European Union Ambassador to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks stated.

The Chisinau Beltway has a total of 6 sectors, with a length of about 90 km. The first tender for the construction of the Chisinau beltway was made back in 2014, but the process was blocked for several years, reads a government statement. This project's completion will reduce the flow of high-tonnage transport passing through the city, thus reducing traffic jams and air pollution.

The project amounts to more than €9.9 million, with money from the European Investment Bank.

In the next period, tenders will be launched for the construction of two other sectors of the Chisinau beltway, the press release added.
