Fugitive extradited to Germany after Moldova arrest
The Moldovan Police have extradited a 44-year-old German national to authorities in Berlin.
The individual, wanted by Interpol for murder and other grave offences committed in Germany, was sentenced to life in prison in 2012 for the murder of a Ukrainian citizen. He escaped from custody in October 2023 with the assistance of a former cellmate, according to the Moldovan Police.
The fugitive was apprehended in Chișinău on July 28, 2024. He had been hiding in Moldova after illegally entering the country.
Officers from the Chișinău Police Department's detention and escort battalion, in collaboration with the Border Police, escorted the individual to a specialised aircraft where he was handed over to German authorities for transport.
