Assistance for farmers affected by drought. AIPA starts accepting applications for financial support

Farmers affected by drought and heat in their wheat and corn crops can, starting today, September 13, submit requests for financial aid to the Agency of Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA). According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), the Government's decision that provides for the allocation of financial means and the approval of their distribution method was published today in the Official Gazette.

According to the cited source, the financial aid will be granted if, according to the findings, the drought and heat have affected at least 60% of the corn crop or 70% of the wheat crop.

In order to receive support, farmers must meet a number of criteria, including having drought and heat damage certificates for at least 50% of their land, regardless of the type of crop or other natural calamities, and having a bank account in national currency. It is also necessary for them to submit a statistical confirmation report, registered with the territorial statistical body until June 3, 2024.

Agricultural lands located within the perimeters of functional centralized irrigation systems or those that have already benefited from subsidized insurance will not be eligible.

The deadline for submitting applications is 20 working days from the entry into force of the Government Decision.
