New European Commission: 25 members of the Commission confirmed by the Council

The Council today adopted, by common accord with the President-elect of the Commission, the list of persons whom it proposes for appointment as members of the Commission until 31 October 2029, reads the press release of the Council of the EU. The decision will now be sent to the European Parliament for approval.

"Today, the Council, in agreement with the head of the European Commission, approved the list of persons proposed to be appointed as members of the Commission for the period until October 31, 2029", - a press release states. In total, the list includes 25 European Commissioners, and former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has also been included separately: she will become the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, succeeding Josep Borrell.

The head of the European Commission presented the list of new members of the agency on September 17. Ursula von der Leyen mentioned that the new composition of her department should include 11 women, which corresponds to a quota of 40%. The new composition of the European Commission will start its work on November 1, if all the candidates are approved by the European Parliament.

Deputies meet in a new plenary session. According to the agenda approved by the Standing Bureau, the Parliament is to ratify an agreement that provides for Canada to offer a loan to the Republic of Moldova in the amount of 120 million Canadian dollars, the equivalent of over one and a half billion lei. The money will be used to strengthen the resilience of households, including refugees, but also to support climate resilience and the transition to green energy. On the agenda is also a project to adjust the national regulatory framework with the provisions of the European Union legislation regarding contracts for the supply of digital content and digital services. At today's meeting, the appointment of some members of the Superior Council of Magistracy is also planned. These are Sergiu Băieșu and Tatiana Tabuncic.
