General Prosecutor: One of the cases of illegal financing of political parties, almost completed
The investigations regarding the illegal financing of some political parties continue, and one of the criminal cases, with 56 defendants, is almost completed, General Prosecutor Ion Munteanu said on TV8. Also, the prosecutors will examine another file involving over 80 defendants. Ion Munteanu pointed that along with the evolution of the criminal proceedings, the way in which the money is brought into the country also evolved.
"These 56 will be selected according to certain criteria or connection between the evidence and separated in other smaller criminal cases with a smaller number of defendants. It is absurd to imagine that a case regarding 56 defendants will go to court. We can state with certainty that there will be no end to this kind of judicial investigation", said Ion Munteanu.
Such a large number of accused is also justified by the fact that the crime is still ongoing, said the head of the General Prosecutor's Office.
"We cannot intervene in a minor case when or in respect of a person who has a minor role when we see that this person or the evidence about this person leads to a person who is more important in this scourge or in this illegal financing scheme", said Munteanu.
Currently, the prosecutors are systematizing the evidence to be legalized for each defendant.
Ion Munteanu explained that the way in which financial resources are illegally introduced in the Republic of Moldova evolved simultaneously the investigations of the law enforcement officers. Initially, the money was brought in bags, now it is transacted electronically, including through banks in the Transnistrian region.
"We have transactions that do not appear to be suspicious, including suspicious transactions that belong to the illegal financing of illegal political activity in the EU countries", pointed out the general prosecutor.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, investigations into the files of illegal financing of political parties continue, with dozens of searches and millions of lei raised, and those responsible are often members of territorial organizations affiliated to the parties, remunerated from hidden sources for political and protest activities.
