Romania sends rescuers to Turkey

Romania will send to the affected area a RO-USAR team, specialized intervention staff in such situations from the IGSU.

Following the consultation with the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă convened the National Committee for Emergency Situations, at the proposal of the DSU.

The Department for Emergency Situations, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, in its capacity as the national contact point, received from the Emergency Response Coordination Center of the European Commission (ERCC), through CECIS, the request of the Turkish authorities for the granting of international assistance, considering the emergency situation generated by the earthquake of over 7 degrees Richter that happened last night in their territory.

At the same time, ten Romanians, located in Turkey, requested consular assistance. It is about a group of Erasmus students, Romanian citizens, who were staying at a hotel in the town of Kahraman Maraș, Turkey, affected by the earthquake, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) reported on Monday. The group of Romanian citizens includes nine students and a coordinating teacher. The group requested consular assistance and repatriation support.
