Scientists honoured at International Science Day
International Science Day was marked by a series of events organised by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), in collaboration with the Romanian Academy.
The International Decade for Science for Peace and Development was launched, and the Research and Innovation Festival, exhibitions, and discussions on the role of science culminated in the awarding of prizes to distinguished scientists.
The Research and Innovation Festival showcased numerous achievements and innovations.
"We have collaborated with researchers from Moldovan research institutes and universities, who presented their findings from 2023-2024. We have fostered interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers and institutions," stated Liliana Condraticova, Scientific Secretary at ASM.
"We have assembled a drone in our USM laboratory, known as 'Drone Education.' It is the only laboratory in Moldova dedicated to training drone instructors," said Associate Professor Veaceslav Sprânceană of USM.
A hybrid event was held at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Romanian Academy.
"We are launching the International Decade for Science for Sustainable Development in the Romanian space. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to address global challenges," emphasised Ion Tighineanu, President of ASM.
Ion Dumitrache, Secretary General of the Romanian Academy, was conferred Honorary Membership of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova: "It is a special honour to become a member of this prestigious institution. A joint research program is imperative. We must recognize that scientific research, education, and innovation are crucial for progress."
Achievements in various scientific fields were recognized with awards. The author collective of the volume "Destine de lingviști" (Fates of Linguists) was honoured with the "Eugeniu Coșeriu" prize in the field of Romanian language and literature.
"This award is dedicated to those who championed the Romanian language in this region. We highlight the contributions of eminent linguists: Nicolae Corlăteanu, Silviu Berejan, Valentin Mândâcanu, Vlad Pohilă, and Ion Melniciuc," explained Elena Ungureanu, recipient of the "Eugeniu Coșeriu" prize.
"The work I presented on Moldovan diplomacy chronicles the early stages of our diplomatic efforts. I was fortunate to be part of these initial steps," stated Aurelian Dănilă, recipient of the "Maria Bieșu" prize.
"I have dedicated several years to researching Iron Age archaeological sites in the middle Dniester region. This project marks a significant milestone, but our investigations will continue to other regions," said Aurel Zanoci, honoured with the "Alexandru Boldur" prize.
"I am deeply honoured by the recognition from the academic community. This motivates me to strive for excellence and continue creating works that resonate with people," expressed Aurelian Silvestru, recipient of the "Nicolae Milescu Spătaru" medal.
The "Viața cărților" (The Life of Books) program, presented by Radio Moldova journalist Emilia Ghețu, was awarded the prize for promoting science in the media.
