Minister of Defense: Radars in the Republic of Moldova cannot detect drones

The radars used by the National Army are currently unable to detect and neutralize drones that enter the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. However, the authorities plan to buy new surveillance and air defense systems, as stated by Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi following a government meeting. He emphasized that as long as there is ongoing conflict on the border and Russian forces continue to target military and civilian locations in Ukraine, there is a risk that additional drones may reach Moldovan territory.

"We are exploring options for purchasing new systems that will enable us to identify potential threats and alert citizens promptly. The contracting and procurement processes are already underway, but I will provide further updates without revealing specific details due to the sensitive nature of this information, which could be exploited by the enemy. We are discussing two types of systems: one for observation and another for neutralizing threats. We are actively working on these initiatives and will implement effective measures to protect our citizens," said Anatolie Nosatîi.

The Minister also noted that the drone discovered on Tuesday, November 19, near a shopping centre in the Ciocana sector resembles those identified in previous weeks. According to him, drones of this model have a range of about 1,300 kilometers.

In light of this situation, Anatolie Nosatîi urged citizens to report any sightings of unidentified object to law enforcement authorities.

We remind you that in recent days, three Shahed drone escorts have been found within the territory of the Republic of Moldova: in the village of Fîrlădeni, Căușeni district, near the village of Borosenii Noi, Rîscani district, and in Coșernița, Criuleni district.

The first Russian missile fell in the Republic of Moldova on October 31, 2022, in Naslavcea.
