Moldova's EU labor market integration: Progress in Brussels
The free movement of workers within the European Union is the topic under discussion in Brussels among representatives from Chișinău and European experts.
Vice Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, stated that the bilateral screening of the chapters in the second cluster related to the internal market has commenced today.
"All chapters in the second cluster related to the internal market are quite complex. They involve various norms, standards, and rules that govern the internal market, which all member states adhere to. We are already benefiting greatly from access to the internal market due to the Association Agreement with the European Union," said Cristina Gherasimov.
According to Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labor and Social Protection, the goal of these negotiations is to integrate Moldova's labor market with that of the European Union.
"Chapter II still requires significant work. It pertains to the free movement of workers, which means that when Moldova joins the European Union, every citizen will be able to secure employment in any EU country and access all related benefits, including labor rights, social protection, allowances, and pensions. Although we are at an early stage of development, the Government will act quickly and decisively to transpose the acquis in the coming years and ensure technical convergence in both labor relations and social protection," said Alexei Buzu.
Yesterday, representatives from various institutions in Chișinău and the European Commission reviewed the progress Moldova has made in areas such as the economy, security, and energy, as well as the necessary adjustments for all negotiation chapters being discussed today at the eighth Moldova–European Union Association Committee meeting.
