Constitutional Court in Romania annuls presidential elections. What happens next?

The Constitutional Court unanimously decided on Friday to annul the presidential elections, reads a statement from the CCR. G4Media announced the information, citing official sources. The electoral process for the election of the president of Romania will be resumed in its entirety, with the government setting a new date. This means that the elections will be held from scratch, with candidates having to register again and having to go through the validation process at the Central Electoral Bureau.

"Based on Article 146 letter f of the Constitution, the entire electoral process regarding the election of the president of Romania is annulled," reads the statement.

It is not clear whether the first round will be resumed with the same list of candidates. According to a source, the annulment of the elections concerns the entire electoral process. In other words, the elections will be held from scratch, with candidates having to register again and having to go through the validation process at the Central Electoral Bureau.

The cancellation of the elections comes amid the declassification of intelligence information indicating Russian interference in the elections. Voting in the Diaspora is currently underway.
