Photojournalist Nicolae Pojoga passed away

Nicolae Pojoga, a photojournalist and educator known for capturing key historical moments, passed away on the night of Saturday to Sunday at 1:00 AM. This was announced by Cartier Publishing House on its Facebook page.

Thanks to Nicolae Pojoga, we have captured significant moments from our history as they unfolded in real time. His work spans from the national revival and the Romanian Revolution to the Flower Bridge and the war on the Nistru. Along with his student Victor Gălușcă, Pojoga played a crucial role in recovering the photo archive of Zaharia Cușnir. “You will remain in our hearts, and we will not forget you, master,” reads a message from Cartier Publishing House.

Nicolae Pojoga was born on April 17, 1950, in the commune of Ciuciuleni, Nisporeni district. He graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Chișinău State University in 1972 and later attended various international journalism and photography courses in Bulgaria, Bosnia, the Netherlands, and the USA. Throughout his career, he worked as a correspondent, photojournalist, and war cameraman, covering several regional conflicts, including the 1989 Romanian Revolution and the 1992 Nistru War.

Pojoga began his creative journey in the 1980s as a photojournalist for print and television media. He documented military conflicts, mass demonstrations, floods, earthquakes, and more.
