Moldovagaz delivers gas to Transnistrian region amid heating crisis

Some residents on the left bank of the Dniester River have regained heating, as the Transnistrian region has been receiving natural gas from Moldovagaz since Saturday.

While some are relieved, others are still waiting. For instance, in the village of Varnița, residents of apartment buildings already have gas, heating, and electricity, while those living in houses are still without these services and will be connected in a few days, according to them.

The residents of the apartment buildings are thankful for the restoration of services, with one stating, "They’ve restored it, thank you. The lights are back on outside as well. We’re grateful they found a common ground." Another added, "Yes, we have gas, and the lights haven’t gone out." However, those in houses are still using stoves for heating and are hopeful about being connected soon. One resident explained, "We haven’t received gas yet. We tried last night, but there was no gas. We hope it will be soon. They promised it will be here in two or three days."

Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă reiterated in a post on his Facebook page that the crisis was caused by Gazprom’s suspension of natural gas deliveries to Moldova on January 1. He emphasized that Chișinău, in collaboration with the European Union, devised a temporary, urgent, and humanitarian solution.

It is important to note that, according to the decision of the Supreme Security Council (CSE) on February 1, Energocom will purchase natural gas worth 20 million euros and ensure the daily delivery of three million cubic meters of gas based on a delivery schedule agreed with Tiraspoltransgaz. Daniel Vodă stated that this decision is only the first step in a broader process, and that discussions based on clear terms will take place after February 10.
