President Maia Sandu convenes a meeting of the Supreme Security Council and the National Commission for European Integration

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, called the Supreme Security Council (CSS) to a meeting on Thursday, November 24. According to the Presidency, the challenges related to the provision of energy resources of the Republic of Moldova would be discussed during the meeting.

The presidential institution also announces that the head of state convened the meeting of the National Commission for European Integration (CNIE) in the morning of November 24. The members of the commission will evaluate the progress achieved in the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the conditions submitted in the context of granting the Republic of Moldova the status of a candidate country for the EU. European integration priorities for the next period will also be discussed. It should be mentioned that major power outages happened in the afternoon of Wednesday, November 23, throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova, as a result of the Russian missile attack on Ukrainian cities. The top leadership of the country condemned the actions of the Russian Federation in relation to the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Following the action, the Russian ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, on November 22, the Chisinau authorities announced that Gazprom has decided to reduce natural gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova by 56.5%, as of December 1, current year. In a statement issued, the Russian concern declared that part of the quantities of natural gas delivered to our country would be blocked in Ukraine, which was denied by Naftogaz, the Ukrainian state energy company, as well as by the Minister of Infrastructure, Andrei Spînu.
