SHS: Frosts are possible. The sudden change in weather is conditioned by the influence of a cyclone

After a few weeks of sunshine and good weather, the weather is cooling down again. From tonight, temperatures will reach minus five degrees Celsius. The weather forecast has worried people, especially villagers, because many of the fruit trees have already blossomed and others are about to bloom.

People are worried that they could lose all their fruit if temperatures drop further. Strong winds have shaken the blossom off the trees, and some trees have been snapped by gusts of wind.

"I haven't put anything in, only as much onion and garlic, I can see we're not going to have any. If you put in and it freezes, why put in, it's no use bothering.";

"I put everything: onions and potatoes, and seeds too. If there's a frost, we're left with nothing. The trees are already in bloom, it's white, beautiful.";

"Who put in, who didn't put in, but we knew it would probably freeze. The trees are in bloom, but it's a pity that a frost could come and we'd lose them";

"A hundred percent that they freeze. The trees come in right away, last year it froze and this year it's still going to freeze."

The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) announced that the sudden change in weather is conditional on the influence of a cyclone. In the next period, temperatures will drop further.

"We are under the influence of a cyclone, which has developed in the Mediterranean Sea, which has moved to the east of the continent. It has allowed it to bring these atmospheric fronts. We are expecting negative temperatures at night. For the next night we expect temperature values between 0 and -5, on the night of 30 March we expect it to drop further and we can have up to -6", says the head of the SHS Weather Forecasting Department, Ghenadie Rosca.

According to specialists, late spring frosts are particularly dangerous for heat-loving and vegetable crops in their early stages of development. Late spring frosts after bud break are also particularly dangerous for vines. People can prevent the effect of spring frosts by fumigation, plant protection curtains, warming the soil surface by irrigation and heating plants with warm air.
