Bahmut's school cafeteria will be renovated after 37 years
Moldovans living abroad remain connected to their roots. A group of natives from the village of Bahmut in the Călărași district is planning to renovate the gymnasium canteen. This project is not the first initiative supported financially by the Bahmut diaspora, which continues to nurture a strong bond with their hometown.

The food block of the gymnasium in Bahmut has not been fully repaired since 1989. The planned renovation will create better conditions for the approximately 170 students. The investment will primarily focus on repairing the space, as the school has already acquired the necessary equipment over the years.
“The food block did not meet sanitary and hygienic standards, and a lot of the equipment was non-compliant. The electrical system was severely damaged, and often, the equipment malfunctioned. Even the terracotta floor and the walls did not meet current requirements, which is why we decided to apply for the project,” declared Galina Zemlinschi, the director of the gymnasium.

"It is very important because it pertains to the hygiene and health of children, which directly affects our future," added Svetlana Cemurtan, a computer science teacher.
The project is financially supported by several sources. Members of the diaspora donated 85,000 lei, while the Government allocated 350,000 lei. Additionally, the City Hall and the Călărași District Council contributed nearly 500,000 lei.

“Everyone donates, and we are very grateful to them. Together, we do good things for our village and our children,” said Igor Godea, the mayor of Bahmut.
This is not the first time that the “DAR 1+3” Program has benefited the school in Bahmut. In 2024, the celebration hall was completely renovated with support from locals living abroad.
“*This space hosts meetings with parents, village gatherings, activities in collaboration with the Public Library, and events at the Communal Museum. It serves as a cultural center for the village. The stage, which was in poor condition, has been renovated; the linoleum was replaced, and the old lighting system was replaced”, said Galina, the director of the gymnasium.

The residents of Bahmut village, along with various groups of Moldovans living abroad, are contributing to the modernization of their communities through the program "Diaspora at Home Succeeds DAR 1+3".
This year, 33 projects will receive funding to enhance and develop local infrastructure. These projects include the expansion of street lighting systems, energy-efficiency improvements, the renovation of educational and cultural institutions, and the development of water supply and sewage networks.
