The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has come out with a reaction, after the Mayor of the Capital, Ion Ceban, stated in a video recording that the lawmen were preparing searches of his close relatives, as well as the fact that, since February, a file of influence peddling against his mother, Eugenia Ceban, had been prepared. In a video on Facebook, Ion Ceban announced that today the masks were to descend on people close to him, including his parents.

"At ten addresses of people close to me, including my parents, all these 10 have to wait for the show with masks. Show that is organized in the classic style that we have seen in the last two years of pseudo. They chose to file a criminal case, from sources I believe, against my mother. A file tied up with white thread of some kind of influence peddling", said the mayor.

In reaction, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office announced that the sources of the mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, are not credible.

According to the institution, only prosecutors can request authorisation from judges for searches. The statement said prosecutors have not requested or authorised searches of the mayor's home or office or his family members.

As regards Ion Ceban's statement about commissioned files, the institution states that prosecutors are independent and apolitical, and they have the obligation and responsibility to investigate any complaint, denunciation and referral of corruption from citizens, regardless of the status of the persons concerned.

The Action and Solidarity Party has also reacted. The party's spokeswoman, Adriana Vlas, claims that Ion Ceban's allegations are aberrations and maintains that PAS will not get involved in the act of justice.
