The mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, risks being stripped of the right to hold a public office or public dignity, except for elective office for three years. The announcement was made by the National Integrity Authority, which found that the Chisinau mayor did not declare 621,000 lei in 2017-2019.

"The control was also carried out on the names of his family members. The verification of wealth was conducted for the period of holding the positions of councillor in the Chisinau City Council and deputy in the Moldovan Parliament, 01.08.2016-25.10.2019. The main debts established to the subjects of the control had their origin in the replenishment of accounts held in management, payment of services in cash, donations to a political party or political sympathiser, purchase of foreign currency in US dollars, payment of car instalments and other expenses in cash," reads the note issued by ANI.

Ion Ceban announced this morning that the ruling party is trying to discredit him.

"We will certainly challenge it in court and win there. In 4 years ANI did not find justified the spending of about 5-7 thousand euros annually. When I asked for 40 PAS millionaires to be audited, these instructions were sent against me. We will deal with it. If you don't want to cooperate with PAS you have problems with ANI, with the courts."

Contacted by RADIOMOLDOVA.MD, PAS spokeswoman Adriana Vlas described the mayor's statements as "aberrations"

"They are aberrations, meant to victimize the mayor. PAS has never and will never get involved in the act of justice," Adriana Vlas said.

Yesterday, Ion Ceban said in several video postings that more searches of his family members were planned. According to him, the lawmen were going to act on the instructions of the ruling party. Contacted by Radio Moldova, the Action and Solidarity Party and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office rejected the accusations.
