Published

Two passenger trains collided in Egypt’s Giza Governorate on Sunday, November 8, killing at least four people and injuring 88, according to the Health Ministry.

Two trains collide on Cairo–Aswan railway route

The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) said train No. 134, travelling from Giza to Fayoum, struck the rear of train No. 2010, which was heading from Cairo to Aswan. The collision derailed several passenger carriages in the Al-Ayyat district, south of Cairo.

Authorities deployed 72 ambulances to transport the injured to nearby hospitals. Emergency crews and cranes were also sent to clear the wreckage and restore rail services.

Investigation launched into deadly collision

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered a swift investigation into the accident and said anyone found negligent should be held accountable.

The Al-Ayyat district has experienced previous railway accidents. Last September, two freight trains collided in the same area, injuring a driver and his assistant.

The cause of Sunday's collision has not yet been established.
