The Constitutional Court examines the Government's complaint on the outlawing of the "Șor" political party
The judges of the Constitutional Court are examining today the Government's application for the outlawing of the political party "Șor". The High Court will decide whether the political party led by Ilan Șor, sentenced to 15 years in prison, is legal or not. The hearing began at 10:00 and is being held with only the parties present.
Victoria Pădure, reporter, Moldova 1:
"The complaint is being examined in the composition of magistrates: Serghei Turcan, Domnica Manole, Vladimir Turcan, Nicolae Rosca and Liuba Sova. At the beginning of the hearing, lawyers representing the "Șor" political party made an attempt to remove the government representatives from the trial and filed a motion asking the court to verify the legal basis for their participation."
"However, the application was rejected by the magistrates. Subsequently, Ilan Șor's lawyers filed another request, this time to recuse Judge Nicolae Roșca, president of the Constitutional Court. As a result, Rosca abstained from chairing the hearing and offered his place to Liuba Sova. The judges retired for deliberations to decide whether Rosca would be able to participate in the examination of the application."
The government filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court last November to review the constitutionality of the "Șor" party.
According to the authorities, there are arguments showing that, through all its activities so far, the political party has acted in contradiction with the principles of the rule of law and endangers the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
