In the centre of the capital, the European City-2023 was inaugurated. The most important European projects are presented to the general public

The European Village-2023 was inaugurated today in the Great National Assembly Square in the centre of the capital. The event is part of the agenda of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova which, together with the Embassies of the EU Member States, is marking this year's Europe Day with a series of cultural and educational events in several regions of the country. The activities planned throughout May, under the theme "Stronger Together", highlight the culture and values of the European Union, as well as the assistance provided by the EU and its Member States, in the spirit of Team Europe, for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

The European Village in Chisinau was launched with a special programme performed by the orchestra of the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri, in the presence of the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, the Ambassadors of the European States, the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu and the Prime Minister, Dorin Recean.

This year, the traditional European Village included several information actions and presentations of European projects implemented in our country. One of them is the project "EU for Moldova: Key Regions" implemented in Cahul and Ungheni.

"The objective of the programme is to contribute to the sustainable, smart, inclusive social and economic development in the two regions. Everything we do must contribute to an improved quality of life for citizens", said project manager Alexandru Pelivan.

Another project implemented with the support of the European Union, including in the south of the country, is about promoting gender equality.

"As a result, we already have 24 partner communities in our project. Two percent of their budgets have been earmarked for activities to prevent and combat violence against women," says project manager Laura Grecu.

Many visitors gathered in front of the stands to find out as much information as possible about European projects implemented in Moldova.

"Europe means organisation, support, prosperity";

"A community of people with the same goals, a unification of traditions";

"Europe is first of all peace in people's souls, peace between ethnicities, in countries, it is freedom."

Among those present at the event I met Alex Frenc, a man from Balti, who 25 years ago went to Germany with his parents.

"I have been working at the German customs for 15 years. Now I have come to Chisinau for a year, I work at the European Mission, which helps border guards and customs officers in Moldova and Ukraine. I help with advice, with the law. Moldova's road is with Europe, we are together, we are Europe!", said Alex Frenc, employee of the EUBAM Mission.

The programme also included various interactive activities. Europe Day events are organised in all regions of the country.
