"Strengthening the right to work in the Republic of Moldova": employment of people with disabilities in the labour market

The right to work and the respect for it will be improved in the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the implementation of international standards will be ensured in terms of facilitating access to vocational-technical education and subsequent employment for people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities and people living in villages. In this respect, the project "Strengthening the right to work in the Republic of Moldova" is being implemented. One of its objectives is to strengthen the capacities of the authorities to promote and protect the right to employment.

The project is being implemented over a two-year period, until 2025, with the support of the Austrian Development Agency, with a total budget of 900 thousand euros.

"I am absolutely convinced that through this project we can make great progress in the labour market. We can find young people, who are interested in accessing the labour market. We offer the chance to join this group not only to those selected. All of them will have the security of having their rights respected", said Gunther Zimmer, Country Director, ADA.

Currently, one of the problems waiting to be solved is the employment of people with disabilities.

**"This category of vulnerable people are more reserved, they are more shy and they are not always able to get their preferred job that will secure their livelihood. Even children with Down's syndrome or infantile cerebral palsy study in technical vocational schools and obviously these children are not always able to get a job"*, said Alexandra Raețchi, Director, Centre of Excellence.

Educational institutions are always in contact with the labour market, and thanks to this project, people with disabilities should find it easier to find employment.

**"The academic environment is in tandem with educational institutions, as they participate in the drafting of national documents and policies. Graduates of educational institutions in the vulnerable category are not always accepted in the labour market. This project is helping to make it easier for the given persons to enter the business environment"*, said Alexandra Raețchi, Director, Centre of Excellence.

According to the National Agency for Employment, last year in the Republic of Moldova there were more than 2,200 people with disabilities registered as unemployed.

They constituted 3% of the total number of unemployed people in our country.
