Maia Sandu welcomes EU decision to sanction those who threaten Moldova's stability and security

President Maia Sandu came with a message after the European Union announced the sanctioning of five people who threaten the stability and security of our country. Four of them are citizens of the Republic of Moldova. "These people in conflict with the law have betrayed and continue to betray the national interest, endanger the development of the Republic of Moldova and work for the Kremlin," she said.

"Today's decision means that these people will not be allowed to move freely to countries that will align with the sanctions, their money will be blocked and their assets will be seized. The European Union is helping us to stop those who want to destabilise the country and block our future," Maia Sandu added.

The EU General Affairs Council adopted on 30 May the list of the first persons sanctioned under the new EU sanctions regime to counter destabilising actions against Moldova, the Romanian Foreign Ministry announced. Minister Bogdan Aurescu welcomed the decision.
