The fire broke out and quickly spread through the family's home, destroying everything inside, including clothes, furniture, food, livestock, and the roof. The family has three biological children and seven adopted children, two of whom are still living with them.

Lidia Bubulici, the mother of the family, was home with one of her sons when the fire broke out.

"The house was on fire," she said. "This was their little nest. Their mother had died, and we had buried her here in the village. I was at home, and we had built a museum there. I was carrying things to the museum, as if God was telling me to save something. On that day, I was still carrying and taking things there. My son called out, 'Mom, smoke is coming from our house.' I thought maybe he thought someone had set fire to the leaves. When I opened the door, it was all in flames. It was so hot, you couldn't go in."

The Bubulici family has raised 10 children, seven of whom are adopted. The fire destroyed everything to the ground. The victims were left with only the clothes on their backs.

"There was no way we could go in," said Lidia Bubulici. "Everything was burning, the roof, the walls, the photos of my mother. Everything was gone, including the clothes and the schoolbooks."

"Several friends from the neighbourhood called me and said, 'Your house is on fire, your house is on fire.' We all came running, from work, from school. We all tried to do what we could. We were left with what we had at home. Everything else was burned."

The only thing found among the ashes was a ceramic figurine of an angel.

"This is the only thing," said Lidia Bubulici. "It's blackened, but it's an angel and the Mother of God, who I believe saved our lives."

The first to help the family were their neighbours and relatives.

"I came from Chisinau last night," said Lidia Furtuna, a relative of the Bubulici family. "We will help her. Our family is big, and we will get through this crisis. The material damage is great, but the moral damage that is destroying her emotionally is even greater. She has raised so many foreign children, brought them in, educated them. She was such a loving and kind mother."

"I feel sorry for the children who lost their parents," said Lidia Bubulici. "They were in an orphanage. We brought them here, gave them everything, and this was their little nest. And now this is gone too. Why, Lord?"
