A man, caught with 550,000 euros at PTF Sculeni will stand trial. The money was confiscated for the benefit of the state
A 60-year-old man, detained on October 5, after trying to fraudulently introduce 550,000 euros into the Republic of Moldova with a suitcase stuffed with 550,000 euros, will stand trial. The announcement was made by the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), which sent the case to the court.
The man had arrived at the entrance to the Republic of Moldova early in the morning, driving a luxury car. When asked about the purpose of the visit, he told the customs inspectors that he would like to return home to visit his mother and that he had nothing to declare.
However, the police checked his car, and the suitcase with over half a million euros was found in the car. Thus, in one of the compartments it contained clothes, and under the protective fabric of the suitcase was the amount of money that he intended to smuggle into the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the information published in the media, the man is suspected of belonging to the former Şor Party, and the money was to be used to finance some candidates from the "Sansa" faction.
PCCOCS says that the money was seized, at the request of the prosecutors, with a view to possible confiscation for the benefit of the state. According to the law, the man risks imprisonment for a term of 4 to 10 years.
