From Auschwitz to Chisinau: Moldova Remembers, Vows Vigilance
On the 79th anniversary of Auschwitz's liberation, Moldova united in solemn remembrance of the Holocaust's victims.
President Maia Sandu joined citizens in honouring the six million Jewish lives extinguished and vowing to combat rising tides of prejudice and hate.
"For Moldova," Sandu declared," the tragedy of the Jewish people, the Roma, and all who suffered during the Holocaust remains a deep wound. We must collectively ensure such horrors never take root again, for it is within hatred, bigotry, and prejudice that monstrous crimes find fertile ground."
A poignant moment of silence and a flickering candlelight vigil painted the city with sombre reflection.
The Holocaust, a genocide fueled by Nazi barbarity, stands as a stark reminder of humanity's darkest chapter. Moldovan commemoration today served not only as a tribute to the fallen, but as a powerful call to action against the insidious resurgence of intolerance and discrimination.
