Romanian Orthodox Church Nullifies Sanctions Against Clergy
The Romanian Orthodox Church has nullified sanctions against priests who left the Metropolitan of Moldova to join the Metropolitan of Bessarabia.
Clergy returning to the latter are recognized as canonical, according to Synodal Decision No. 8090 from 19 December 1992.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, around 150 priests have left the Moldovan Metropolitan, citing disagreement with its ties to the Russian Orthodox Church. In response, the Metropolitan of Moldova has barred these priests from performing sacred rites and threatened excommunication.
