New Customs Service Chief: Transition Amid Corruption Scandal
In the forthcoming weeks, a new head of the Customs Service is set to be appointed. This decision follows the recent resignation of Igor Talmazan from his position.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean, in a statement, characterised Talmazan's resignation as an act of maturity and honour.
Prime Minister Recean declined to disclose potential successors or candidates for the vacant position.
Igor Talmazan, the former head of customs, resigned in the wake of the corruption scandal at Chișinău International Airport. Seven inspectors are under suspicion for allegedly accepting bribes from passengers to allow them to bypass declaring certain goods. Subsequently, one customs officer has been sentenced to 30 days' imprisonment, while two others have been placed under house arrest.
