Biden Continues Duties Despite COVID-19 Diagnosis
American President Joe Biden has fallen ill with COVID-19, announced last night, July 18, by the White House press office. The Washington leader himself declares that he feels well, according to DW.
The source emphasised that the American leader, aged 81, has been vaccinated against COVID-19, including receiving a booster shot, and only presents mild symptoms in the upper respiratory tract, namely: a runny nose and a dry cough. The American President also faces general malaise, his attending physician declared.
Biden himself, after receiving a positive test for coronavirus, declared that he feels "good". News of his infection came while he was at an event in Nevada. The White House informed that the president intends to return to his home in Delaware and self-isolate, during which time he will continue to fulfil his duties as head of state.
Biden is ready to revise his decision to run if he has health problems.
Previously, on July 17, in an interview with journalist Ed Gordon, Joe Biden acknowledged that only medical conditions could make him reconsider his decision to run for a second presidential term.
"If I had a medical problem, if someone—if doctors came to me and said that you have this problem, this problem," Joe Biden declared in an excerpt from the interview made public by BET News.
Requests for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race
Meanwhile, in the USA, a series of politicians and public figures have asked Biden to withdraw from the elections. Supporters of his withdrawal from the presidential race argue their point of view primarily due to the politician's advanced age.
