Through the United Nations office, approximately $150 million arrived in the Republic of Moldova for the management of the refugee crisis and the support of Ukrainian citizens in our country. This money was managed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and other UN agencies. Key partners that have contributed to refugees on this line include the European Union and the governments of the USA, Italy, Sweden, Norway and Japan. In addition, some €10.5 million in governmental donations have come from the governments of Sweden, Lithuania, Switzerland, Estonia and Slovakia.

Last week, the European Commission also proposed €145 million in extra aid for Moldova to combat the energy crisis and host more Ukrainian refugees. Financial assistance is conditional on reforms in the economy, strengthening the rule of law, energy security and progress in fighting corruption. The commission's proposal needs to be approved by the European Parliament and EU member countries. The new tranche of funds would add to the EU's pledge of around $1bn to Moldova. "We stand in solidarity with Moldova at a time when the shockwaves of Russia's brutal war continue to hit the country," said European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.

More than 750,000 people from Ukraine have entered our country since the beginning of the war. Some 102,000 people remain on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and more than 11,000 have applied for asylum to the Moldovan authorities.
